The construction worker

One time I was drunk in fear was when I was watching a person in front of me dying in my dream. Thankfully, it wasn’t anybody I knew but it was still terrifying to watch a person wincing in pain as he moved. He was wearing construction clothing and his abdomen was pierced through with a large thick pole. Blood trickled down his body and made a puddle around him, also at the same time, emitting an awful smell. He was sitting down on the crumbling gray ground.

As I looked around, I realized it was a catastrophic construction center, everything in chaos. I only hear a neutralized sound except for the huffing screams of the person. At first he was just looking down at the floor, breathing steadily, but gradually he tilted his head to see what was around him and he saw me. His two desperate eyes synchronized on me as I looked back at him. He dropped his head back down and started whispering, tears across his face

“Please... Please, help… me. It hurts… so much.”

And he kept repeating. I knew I was the only person around, and I had to save him, but my body was planted onto the floor. I tried to call out to him, but my mouth won’t open and the only thing I could do was to look back at him. I wanted to cower down to hide my helpless self, and shut all the sound and sight from around me. But I wasn’t even allowed to blink. The time I was just looking at the helpless guy dying before my eyes seemed forever.

Suddenly, through the broken down window, a grackle landed on the construction worker, and everything went pitch black and dark except for the yellowish green eyes of the grackle eyeing me. I could feel my heart beat faster, and I looked around, trying to find a exit to this darkness. I ended up spotting nothing, and when I tried desperately to move my body, it was as if I had no body. I couldn’t feel anything. Then what or who am I?

But soon, even before I had time could complete that thought, the shining eyes of the grackle disappeared and instead, I started hearing a person’s panting and whispers. “Why, why, why, didn’t you save me?” It whispered, the sound slowly creeping up in volume.

Even if I couldn’t see, I could feel something in front of me growing larger. Now I could feel myself shake in fear, but as always, not moving from the spot. I could also feel the warm sensation of my tears rolling down, but no voice came out. Ok, at least I probably have a body. I wanted to cower down so badly and make myself small as possible, try to detach some of the darkness enveloping me. But my eyes were wide and open and my body stood still.

Suddenly I winced out consternation as a strong tight hands surrounded my neck. It slowly tightened, but not completely, and it gave me some room to breathe. Then the light came back, and

I saw the half dead construction worker holding me custody with two tight hands as he slowly removed the other. As I saw, the grackle sat at where his heart was supposed to be, dripping blood all over itself. “No, this isn’t enough” The pale, smiling construction worker said as he grabbed the pole that was choking him before.

His blood was still dripping from the pole, fresh red. As his rough laughter filled the room which seemed endless, he slowly placed the tip of the pole to my stomach. I wondered how I looked right now… I could bet if it was me, besides my vigilant eyes, my whole body would be shaking and screaming. And I could almost swear that my eyes were all red and puffy because of how much I cried. And my mental state was just so empty, only thing it was doing was not even looking at the guy, but focusing all the senses to the tip of the cold pole touching my stomach, through some kind of a thin fabric. And soon enough, a loud cry was heard and the pole was shoved into me. A cringing pain shot through my whole body, and I woke up.
