The Dark Terrified Me
I would cower behind my mom when I was scared. When I walked in a dark, ominous room I would stand close and hold her hand tight. I would wince at every surprising noise I heard, even if it was the caw of a grackle, and draw closer to my mother. I would look around with such vigilance like I needed to understand everything that was in that dark room. If I saw something in the dark and couldn't see what it was a cloud of consternation would hover over pouring thoughts of fear into my mind. But when the light switch turned and the lights flashed on the fear and anxiety was suddenly neutralized.
