How Culture Affects the Decision We Make

Culture affects everything we do; how we eat, what we eat, how we name our children, how we travel, our art, where we live how we live and more. When I eat at a table and pray before I start eating that is culture setting habits in me that will soon become tradition and the norm. Living in a house made of concrete with a large open kitchen is culture making its way into my daily life and into the decision making of the builders, similarly in other cultures such as Malta having a small, tight kitchen and walls made out of limestone is the cultural norm. Another example is how people travel, some cultures see travel as a time to bond with people so in some countries people walk with family and friends, in other cultures traveling is seen as a time to get somewhere in as short as a time as possible so people drive or use the tram.

Although the examples show that culture affects our decisions one of the most important decisions culture affects is how to raise and name our children. In some cultures naming a child is done by the religious leader, grandparent or town leader but in other cultures the parents look for the name. Same with naming the child, culture affects it greatly- although there are many different ideas within a culture the basic upbringing of the child is the same within a culture. There are many different cultures and traditions and these factors influence our daily lives and decision making tremendously.
